Conrad Los Angeles Hotel

Background

For much of my life, whenever I would come to Los Angeles, I would stay in a hotel that is outside of the city. For example, if I came in town for a Lakers game, go shopping, or visit a museum, I would travel back to my hotel outside of Los Angeles proper. Many times, this hotel would be in a place like Orange County. It was not until this past year that I decided that it would make sense to stay in downtown Los Angeles at the Conrad, a brand I cherish each time that I visit.

Conrad: The Brand

About six years ago, I stayed in the Conrad New York Downtown, located near Battery Park. This was my introduction to the brand. Featured within the Hilton brand portfolio, there are few locations within the United States, with many outside of the country. While this may be the case, each one has its own charm. If I had to pinpoint why I appreciate the brand, I would say that it is high luxury but without the exorbitant cost.

Another reason that this brand is special, is that each one that I have visited feels unique. The Los Angeles location is the fourth Conrad property that I have stayed, and while it upholds a few similarities to its other brand affiliates, it feels like a completely distinct experience.

The Location

Designed by the iconic architect Frank Gehry, the Conrad Los Angeles sits north of downtown, right across the street from the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall, also designed by Frank Gehry. 

As you approach the hotel, the entrance is placed on an elevated area nestled between two buildings. As someone who has visited a variety of hotels ranging from ones with no grand entrance and those that feel make you like you are at a train station, the secluded aspect of arriving to a luxurious hotel gives you a feeling, almost like a celebrity arriving to a location, where no one can see you; perfect for LA. It is a quiet and relaxing area to arrive and depart from.

The Lobby

As you leave the driveway downstairs, the entrance to the lobby is just a couple floors up by elevator. This is a trend that I have noticed with a few Conrad hotels that I have stayed in prior years. The entrance to the building and the lobby are in separate areas. Depending on where your hotel is located, I find this to be comforting because it gives you peace of mind that you have arrived to a secure area. Regardless of the area, it also keeps some of the foot traffic out of the lobby, which can help make it feel serene.

One aspect that I view to be unique of the lobby/common space of the hotel is the various options for seating. Despite this residing in one floor of a downtown hotel building, it does not give you a restricted feeling. There are many pockets to sit and have a conversation with someone, with a privacy element. 

The Rooms

I have had the privilege of staying at the Conrad Los Angeles multiple times now. I stayed in similar rooms but with different views. Out of both visits, the first time I visited had an incredible room. That first time I stayed, I had a spacious room with countless floor to ceiling windows, offering a Panoramic view of the northern part of downtown Los Angeles, including a majestic view of the symphony hall. Both visits were almost identical in the serine elements that the hotel provides. It really is attributed to the excellent service that is offered at the Conrad LA.

When you stay at multiple locations of a hotel brand, you start to pay attention to similarities; especially positive ones. One aspect that I love that is a feature of Conrad hotels, is the soap they offer. I am very particular when it comes to soaps, typically due to the scents. This brand always has a great selection for the brand and scent they provide. On this previous stay, they featured Byredo soaps, which tend to be on the expensive side, but are intoxicating.

A component within the rooms at the Conrad LA that I appreciate, is the intentional spacing. I have stayed in large rooms that feel small, and small rooms that are utilized well and feel bigger than they appear. At the Conrad LA, everything is well thought out. You don’t feel cramped as you can in some major cities. Also, the restroom and shower are separated and far distanced from the bed, which is a nice alternative to some rooms that put them too close for comfort.

The Food

On one of my visits, I dined at San Laurel for breakfast. Although this was on a weekday, it was very delicious and peaceful. It is a nice feeling to drink your morning coffee while looking at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I did not try any of their specialities as I am partial to a “bistro breakfast” wherever I go. If you dine here, it is the: “First & Grand Breakfast.”

Multiple Bars

Because my stay was short on both instances, I did not get to explore the different bars at the hotel. They have one in the main lobby and believe they have one near the pool area, but it was not open at the time I visited the pool.

The Amenities

The Gym

Unfortunately, on both trips, I did not have a chance to utilize the gym. Although I did not get to use the gym, I was able to appreciate the amenities offered for the gym. They have your standard techno gym machines and Pelotons. Also featured in the gym is boxed waters and “cooled” towels in the refrigerator. There are many small details such as this one that help this hotel stand out.

The Rooftop Pool and Terrace

The rooftop pool was one of the more unique city pools that I have seen. It is not too common to have art pieces featured next to the hotel pool, while the Walt Disney concert hall is in your peripheral. Even if you choose not to swim, they have covered cabanas that you can relax in. There is a bar and food options are accessible as well.

As featured in the 2026 Forbes travel guide, the Conrad Los Angeles is a perfect choice for your next stay when you visit the city. I am a very enthusiastic admirer of the Conrad brand. Each time I hear of a new one launching, it instantly reaches my hotel wish list. I would recommend staying at one of their hotels if you have not previously.

Depending on what brings you to Los Angeles, whether it is a Lakers game to see Luka, the World Series champion Dodgers, a concert at the Hollywood bowl, or the Olympics in 2028, the Conrad Los Angeles is a perfect place for your stay.
