I’m a born and raised Texan who is now a New Yorker. I spent the first 18 years of my life in Houston and then went off to The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’em, Horns!) majoring in biochemistry and business. Upon graduating, I made the spontaneous decision to leave my southern roots and move to New York City to begin a new chapter in my life.
Talk about your first experience drinking coffee. Did you like/hate it the first time you tried it?
The first time I had coffee was when I was a freshman in college and ironically enough, I didn’t enjoy the bitter taste at all. I was never a fan of energy drinks though and I needed something to help keep me awake during all those long nights of studying for upcoming quizzes and midterms. Fortunately, I eventually got used to the bitter taste and started to enjoy and appreciate the many benefits (i.e. helping cram last-minute info because what college student didn’t do that?! ;P) that coffee provided. They say ball is life… but I say COFFEE IS LIFE.
Who is your favorite roaster? Which roast?
I’m going to give a huge shoutout to one of my favorite cities (Austin) and say that Cuvée Coffee is one of my favorite roasters. I especially love the Mezzanotte Dark Roast.
Favorite food/sweets to pair with your coffee?
DONUTSSSSSSSS. Seriously though. There is nothing better than a having a warm soft glazed donut with a cup of coffee.
What would your advice be to someone who doesn’t drink coffee currently who should?
I say give it a shot, especially if you’ve never had coffee before. I think one of the most important messages about life is to be open-minded — you never know what you may or may not like if you never give something a try. Remember though… first impressions are everything. If it’s your first time drinking coffee, I’d recommend checking out a reputable coffee shop in your area and ordering a vanilla latte since it’s on the sweeter side. If you want something that might be a tad less sweet, try getting a cappuccino or cold brew. Coffee will always be there for you so don’t be afraid!
My favorite drink
My favorite drink is definitely a classic cold brew, but I do appreciate a latte (w/ almond milk) during the unbearably cold NYC winter days.
