#SitdownSunday | Caroline
My name is Caroline and I’m from Houston, Texas! I’m currently in college majoring in Psychology and minoring in Cultural Anthropology and Spanish. My school is in Santa Barbara, California so I love to take advantage of all the great outdoor activities SB has to offer- like hiking, going to the beach, and sitting outside enjoying a good cup of coffee!
Talk about your first experience drinking coffee. Did you like/hate it the first time you tried it?
My parents both love coffee, and one of my earliest memories from childhood is that I would often wake up to the sound of my dad grinding coffee beans in the kitchen right below my bedroom. I didn’t begin to like coffee until high school when I needed it to stay awake after late nights cramming for tests. When I first began to drink it I definitely needed a lot of sugar and cream!
Who is your favorite roaster? Which Roast?
My favorite roaster is called Boomtown Coffee- a roaster local to Houston, Texas. I recently tried their “Darkness Spreading” dark roast blend and really liked it! My favorite Santa Barbara roaster is Dune Coffee Roasters. They own a great chain of coffee shops in Santa Barbara called The French Press.
Favorite food/sweets to pair with your coffee?
Nothing is better than homemade biscuits and coffee on Saturday mornings! I also love eating breakfast tacos from Siphon Coffee in Houston.
What would your advice be to someone who doesn’t drink coffee currently who should?
If you’re a new coffee drinker you should try to buy beans from local roasters and go to local coffee shops rather than Starbucks, Peet’s, etc. Drinking coffee can be a great new way for you to support local businesses and get to know other people in your community!
A good cappuccino!
